visit the Eastern Ontario School Mountain Bike Champs website Peter Meier, the event co-ordinator for the Eastern Ontario High School & Elementary School Mountain Bike Championships submits the details of an upcoming mountain bike event for kids grade 6-12.
Where: Limerick Forest, 50 minutes south of Ottawa
When: Friday May 28, 2010
The sixth annual Eastern Ontario school mountain bike event will be held on Friday May 28, 2010. This event is a perfect way to experience mountain biking for the first time and a great way to spend a day if you usually enjoy road or xc racing or more extreme forms of mountain biking. If you are an experienced rider this would be a good way to introduce the activity to friends. The event attracts riders from the Ottawa- Kingston -Bancroft -Cornwall area.
A top of the line mountain bike is not required. Many riders who do this event have never been on a bike in the woods, yet it also attracts skilled riders and the elite racers. The course is fun for experts, yet beginner friendly. Due to the sandy soil, it is safe to ride whether wet or dry.
The organizing group for this event are all volunteers and are all avid cyclists – we run this event to give back to the sport and to help get youth involved in an activity that will fulfill them for a lifetime. It is rewarding to see new riders experience the thrill of mountain biking and racing. Entry is only $20 and $15 for people with OCA insurance. There are many classes, trophies for top high school and elementary school, plus a team event and many random draw prizes to give out including a new bike.
Please spread the word to students, parents, teachers and schools. This is a great way to get people hooked on biking for life.
A student does not need a teacher to accomodate them to the event. Please see the website for details. You can download/print a poster from the mainpage.
