The winning move started on the second of three 14-mile loops with one rider attacking the field. Another rider bridged across and the two remained just in sight of the field. Ron Amos went in pursuit shortly after but was brought back at the end of the lap. Undeterred, Ron took off again after getting his breath. I bridged up to Ron and the two of us worked the chase well. Over the remaining 25 km, we managed to distance the field sufficiently to finish the climb up Whiteface without any challengers. As for the leaders, we got to within 30 seconds, but couldn't close the gap. Ron and I finished 2nd in our categories (since the race combined the 35+ and 45+ categories). Steve Proulx decimated the remaining field with flurry of attacks; joined by Jon Gee, the two riders rounded out the podiums in each category.
Update: Carl Kiffner was also in attendance and sent along a link to the race results and offers his own view of the event.
Steve, Craig, Ron and Jon really made the race. Once Craig and the CIBC guy got away, the race turned really negative with the field chasing down just about everything. Steve got away with John Malois some time on the third lap before the feed (you'll have to check with Steve) and I had a front row seat to watch Jon ride away from the field the last time up the mammoth hill before the feed at the end of the last of the three laps.
