Thanks to a team effort by the Canadians, Alex Cataford (Ottawa, ON) took home the silver medal in the 25km Points race, sprinting across the finish line with a total 38 points. In the Points race, there are sprints every 10 laps, where the first four riders to cross the finish line cumulate points. At the end of the 25km, the rider with the most points wins.
In the Women’s 500m Time Trial race Florence Laplante-Lamarche (Ottawa, ON) finished fifth with a time of 37.695 seconds, just ahead of her teammate Audrey Labrie (Prévost, QC) who came in sixth with a sprint of 37.945 seconds. Mexico’s Luz Daniela Gaxiola took home the gold by posting the fastest time of 36.024 seconds.
In the Ladies Team Sprint, the duo comprised of Allison Beveridge (Calgary, AB) and Florence Laplante-Lamarche (Ottawa, ON) sprinted to a silver medal performance, stopping the clock at 36.658 just 0.01 os a second behind the golden Mexican team.
Beveridge, Laplante-Lamarche and their teammate Audrey Labrie (Prévost, QC) took home Canada’s second medal of the day, this time in the Ladies Team Pursuit, posting a time of 3 minutes 52 seconds. The Mexican team dominated the event to win the gold with a time of 3 minutes 37.139 seconds.
Alex Cataford (Ottawa, ON), who won a silver medal in yesterday’s points race, finished fourth in the Men’s individual pursuit stopping the clock at 3 minutes 26.942 seconds in the bronze medal dual. Both he and his teammates Patrick McGinley (Oakville, ON) who finished 12th rode personal bests in the race, showing continuous improvement.
Florence Laplante-Lamarche won Canada's only medal on Tuesday at the 2010 Junior Pan-American Championships in Mexico City, winning the bronze medal in Women's Scratch race. Laplante-Lamarche (Ottawa, ON), who finished seventh at the 2009 World Junior Championships in the same event, edged her teammate Allison Beveridge (Caglary, AB) at the finish line for the bronze medal. Mexican rider Luz Daniela Gaxiola won gold and Libith Chacon of Venezuela took silver.
