Fake cop in the Gatineau Park threatens cyclist

not the fake cop in question. The Ottawa Sun and the Ottawa Citizen are reporting an ominous report of a police impostor in the Gatineau Park:
"Gatineau Park enthusiasts have been put on alert after a cyclist claimed a fake cop attempted to “arrest” him.
The Ottawa cyclist, who didn’t want his name or age used, said he was southbound around the northern loop of the Gatineau Pkwy. heading toward Gamelin around 7:15 p.m. Saturday when he encountered a man standing in the middle of the road.
“I was biking and some guy directed me off the road (toward a parking lot) and told me I was under arrest,” the man said. “He was all dressed up like a cop, so I stopped and asked him why I was in trouble.”
The fake cop was wearing a vest, badge and cap that all had the word “marshal” on them. He also had a holster strapped around his waist with what appeared to be a gun in it, and he was wearing sunglasses.
We've heard directly from the cyclist affected, and here is what he had to say:
Can you folks pass along in the bike community - DO NOT STOP FOR ANYONE IN THE GATINEAUS!
I had someone pull what looked like a gun on me tonight. The guy tried to put me in handcuffs.
Key things:
The incident happened around 7:15 or so tonight (Sat Sept 12th) on the northern loop parking lot on the Gatineau parkway.
- "Marshal" on this clothing and cap
- the fact his vehicle was hidden away
- he was in the middle of the road directing me to enter into the parking lot
- he used his weapon (what ever it was - gun/taser fake or real... hard to tell)
- he used handcuffs
- he didn't answer my question of why I was being detained.
- very assertive, aggresive and determined
- well thought out in some regards (the onset of it all was believable)
So, beware of a suspicious male in an orange vest, black cap and he had sun glasses (it was still sunny out). All of this clothing had the word "Marshal" on it.
At first, I thought the whole thing was some sort of bike blitz or something. Hence the reason why I stopped. Then I asked "why am I being arrested". He did not respond. Just simply said "I've been mandated by the NCC to put you under arrest". Once inside the parking lot, he took out his weapon (fake or not? who knows) and got a bit more aggressive knowing I was out of the view of the public. He then stated, "get on your knees" as he took out some handcuffs. That's when I pretty much gunned in out of there.
Main thing - Don not stop for anyone that seems suspicious up there. I fear this guy doesn't have very good intentions once he has handcuffs on someone - male or female. This guy just seemed to be after anyone up there.
He was very believable at the onset and very assertive. Then, he got more aggresive and determined.
Just beware!
Gatineau Park,
fake cop
