hammer - anvil cyclocross, and running this weekend!

A quick note from Glen Rendall about upcoming events this weekend:

Hello,

As you may have heard, Ride with Rendall is hosting the Ontario Provincial Cyclocross Championships this Saturday as part of our two day Hammer /Anvil Cross races this weekend. This year we have also added a 6km cross country run on the Sunday  (Anvil on Foot).

These races are the only Cyclocross races happening this year in the city of Ottawa so the races need your support. We need participants and spectators on both days to ensure the success of the event. There are races for everyone both days along with some fantastic prizes. For the spectators, there is a race announcer , a food tent and a venue that is easy to get to.

If you plan on doing the races  on Saturday please register soon since registration closes Thursday at midnight. Sunday's online registration closes at the same time but there will be day of registration for all events.

For more information and a schedule of events, please go to www.ridewithrendall.com

When: November 19th and 20th

Location:
Nepean National Equestrian Park
401 Corkstown Rd
Nepean, ON

Thanks,
Glen

Provincial TT results and race report

Ride With Rendall hoClara Hughes tuning up for the world champs. click for bigger.sted the Ontario Provincial Time Trail Championships this past weekend in the City of Clarence-Rockland (Clarence Creek).  This marked the first time in many years that the Championship event has been hosted in Eastern Ontario.  The Ottawa area has always had a large number of participants in its weekly time trail series, and this event gave many of these riders a chance to race against some of the best in the Province and the Country.

There was 15 Championship Categories that were contested, plus 2 spotif races (20km & 40KM) for both Men and Women, and races for U13 and U15 (non championship).

The course proved to be a fast one, the intermittent rain all day seemed to keep the wind to a minimum which also help to produce some really fast times.   Aaron Fillion (Ride With Rendall), was the only rider to go under 50 minutes with a time of 49:44 (48.3 Km/h), and kept is Ontario Provincial Time Trail Champion Title for another year.  After missing out on the National Championships this year due to illness, Aaron has been setting new course records in the Ottawa area over the past couple of weeks, as he continued to rebuild his form for this event.

The event also saw the current Women's National Champion (Clara Hughes) participate in the event.  Although she was not able to win the Ontario Champion title as she is a Quebec resident, she used the event as preparation for the World Championships.  Clara posted the fastest time for the women at 54:28 (44.1 km/h).

Ride With Rendall would like to thank everyone that made this event possible, as without these people racing and events like these would not happen.

next weekend!!

The Ontario Provincial Time Trial Championships presented by Ride with Rendall is next weekend, Sunday, August 21st. Visit the RwR website for registration, course map, and the technical guide.

Remember that pre-registration closes at noon on Friday, August 19th

Also, the Sportif categories are open to anyone without a UCI legal Time Trial bike setup. Out of province racers are welcome, but won’t qualify for Ontario championship titles (did you know that Clara Hughes who lives in Quebec is registered?).

Finally, if you are not planning on racing, the organizing teams requires volunteers to help out as corner marshals. You will get a great sandwich and drink, as well as the satisfaction knowing you are helping out the best dang cycling community in Canada.

Clarence Rockland 2011 race report

Glen slogging through. click for bigger image. photo by CAMCAMThanks again to Glen Rendall and the RWR team for putting on a tremendous event for the 2011 Clarence Rockland Classic. The race report for the event has been posted over at the Ride with Rendall site:

With the mayor there to start the race, 144 cyclists rolled out en mass to battle the roads and gravel of the second running of the Clarence –Rockland Classic.

Nearing the end of the first gravel section, a small group containing Chris Reid (RWR), Imad El-Ghazl (Kunstadt Sports) and  Tim Carleton (Ride all Day/Real Deal) slipped off the front of the field and slowly started to build up a lead that would top out at just over a minute.

The large main pack was content to ride intact until the 38km mark, when the pace spiked and the field was put under pressure by a series of attacks and surges on the front. When the pace slowed, Mason Hanrahan (RWR) followed by Marty Zollinger (RWR) launched and were quickly covered by Warren MacDonald (Nine2Five Pro), who was now back in the field after a flat tire. Immediately after, Aaron Fillion (RWR) pulled away from the bunch and quickly joined the three riders who were now organized and in pursuit of the break.

Read the rest of the report over at the Ride With Rendal CR report page. Race pictures by CAMCAM, the event official photographer, coming soon!
