Ontario Provincial Champs, Masters B race, by Ron Amos

click image to read the Masters B category race report at Canadian CyclistRon Amos and Jon Gee made the heroic drive out to Elliot Lake, Ontario for the Provincial Road and Hill Climb Champs. Canadian Cyclist also has a great blow-by-blow of the Master B race where Ron and Jon are prominently mentioned. Here's what Ron had to say:

Jon and I made the 7-8hr drive up into the Wilderness of Elliot Lake hoping to make the return trip easier by coming home with some good race dialog and maybe some hard fought for hardware. Funny how you can race for a few hours and then rehash the race for many hours afterwards.

Jon attacked the Provincial Hill Climb hard hoping to defend his Gold Medal from last year. Unfortunately the new kid on the Master B “block”, Steve Baker, won leaving Jon with the Silver Medal this year.

Canadian Nats Master B Silver Medal, by Ron Amos

Ron in TT mode. click for bigger.I arrived in Devon Alberta for the Canadian National Masters Championships on Wednesday, so that I could get the plane legs on wound and have a chance to pre-ride the TT course a few times. First item of concern on the race course was the rough surface on the pavement. Apparently the townships lay down a spray on the road surface which makes the roads grippier in the winter time. Rough roads are havoc for a smooth TT ride. Much to my delight I discovered that a foot and a half of the very shoulder of the road surface was not sprayed and thus very smooth. Funny, because it looked like the same surface but when you put your wheels on it you picked up a km/h easily. Thus, the importance of pre-riding a Time Trial course. Riding on this foot and a half section of roadway required some additional concentration, especially with the cross winds pushing the bike around. (My RCMP Buddy who pulled me over in a race a few weeks back would be happy....he would have had loads of room to pass me with his SUV in this race).

Charlevoix and Tour de Syracuse race reports

Updated on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 7:43PM by Registered Commenteradmin

Ron Amos submits results, report and photies for two recent out-of-town races that many local Ottawa folks participated, and apparently did very well in. Thanks Ron, great stuff!

Charlevoix

click for biggerThe very challenging Charlevoix Stage Race took place this past weekend with a huge contingent of Ottawa/Gatineau area racers participating. The race is likely one of the most challenging two day stage races in eastern Canada. Check out the results at http://www.fqsc.net/route/resultats-gp-charlevoix to see how the Nations Capital area club racers and independent racers did.

Also you can check out the following link for a bit of a race report blab from the Ride with Rendall perspective: http://www.ridewithrendall.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1071

More pictures from Charlevoix are posted in the photo gallery

Tour de Syracuse

At the Tour de Syracuse stage race, Jon Gee won the road race which came with a poka dot jersey. I believe Steve Proulx won his road race for a poka dot jersey as well. Craig Hawkes won the yellow GC Jersey and Marc Lapointe won the green sprint jersey for winning the crit. Steve, Craig and Marc all raced 35+ and Jon and I raced 45+ in Syracuse.
